Information & copywriting

"Good web copywriting is one of the most underestimated disciplines of web site building."

It always takes more time than you expect to (and probably want to). Therefore it is crucial to address this topic already in the first phase of your project. Making a good content plan will definitely help.

Checklist for a good content plan

  1. Start with an information analysis: interview all stakeholders to determine what you need on your website.
  2. Make a content inventory: do this as granular as possible. Define each content item and its place on the website. Indicate who owns that content and what workflow you wish to apply. This will make the implementation of the CMS much easier later on.
  3. Sort all content into a navigation structure: label all your content items and give them a place in a global tree structure. Translate this into your navigation model.
  4. Refine it by means of a wireframe: this basic visual guide suggests the layout of each content item in the interface by means of abstract forms and lines. When completed correctly they will provide a visual reference upon which to structure each page.
  5. Make a good planning: as content gathering is a time consuming process, you must plan this well in advance.
  6. Define metadata and keywords. This will contribute to the quality of your internal search and will improve your ranking in search engines.
