Makroshop.be has been named the International Sitecore Site of the Year in the category International Best Retail/eCommerce Site. Selected from several customers, this project by The Reference is being recognized for its use of Sitecore’s Web and online marketing technology to develop more effective business processes and advanced digital strategies. It reinforces The Reference’s leading position in the domain of advanced content management solutions.
MakroShop's website represents the full end-to-end e-commerce branch of one of Belgium's largest "Cash and Carry" resellers. The target audience includes both private as professional users, and each have their own specific product catalogues. The website is supported in both Dutch and French.
Henri De Roeck, Technology Manager at The Reference elaborates: “Makro’s objective was crystal clear: they wanted to stand out and not be "just another e-commerce website”. Built in only four months, the new Makro webshop offers an easy and fast way to make a purchase in one flow. Considering the Makro culture, which lives and breathes "cash and carry", the experience for both the end user as well as Makro as a company is a strong evolution. An increase in sales is definitely noticeable. In only three weeks the targets for the first phase were already achieved. The results have helped Makro in defining the next steps of their sales strategy.”

Sitecore’s Site of the Year contest recognizes organizations that have leveraged Sitecore’s technology to develop the most outstanding websites. Nominations are judged on creativity, integration with rich data sources and applications, the ability to engage, educate and motivate an action, and the overall user experience the site is able to deliver to its visitors. The Sitecore Site of the Year contest is divided into four regions, International, Denmark, UK, and North America.
