SDL Tridion was founded in 1999 in The Netherlands. Its flagship product, SDL Tridion R5, has been a certitude in the CMS market for many years and is implemented by partners across Europe, USA, the Middle East and Asia Pacific. It is used by several hundred customer sites across the world including many Fortune 500 companies.

The key differentiator of SDL Tridion is its BluePrint Model that enables large organisations to manage and deliver content in multiple formats and languages to multiple websites, channels and online applications. Consider for instance an organisation with a central web team that provides content for the site and local web teams. These local teams can publish content as is, or localize it without losing the relation with the central team. Consider e.g a corporate website in relation to local websites, a multilingual constellation, the relationship between Internet, intranet and extranet or a multi-device platform involving a consumer website, kiosks and interactive television.

Another important aspect of SDL Tridion is the fact that the Tridion Content Manager (which uses Microsoft technology) can publish to multiple web and application servers on different platforms. In that way it is platform independent allowing you to choose both Microsoft .NET and J2EE. This separation of content management and delivery guarantees maximum scalability.

Finally, the component based approach enforces you to separate content and presentation.
